The Golden Compass Essay Artifact: An essay about the juxtaposition of secondary characters in Phillip Pullman’s The Golden Compass.

My process for the Golden Compass essay was made simple because most of the brainstorming and outlining was done in class, using a Webspiration chart. This was very helpful to me, as I find a visual outline really helps me organize my thoughts. This assignment pushed me further toward my goal of mastering this objective mainly because it was good practice. To learn a skill and master it, it is important to crash and burn and learn from your mistakes, so I viewed this essay as a learning experience.

One of the strengths of this assignment for me was that it gave me a better understanding of close analysis and an opportunity to try and improve. Aside from “to be verbs”, the biggest challenge I encountered on this assignment was finding powerful supports, the most important part of the essay. I would have overcome this obstacle if I had revised my essay, which I did not do. However, I do have a greater understanding, after reading my comments, of what makes a good support. From this experience I learned the value of being prepared and organized, as well as a better understanding of the weaknessed I need to focus on in the future.
